N2 - A method of computing the temperature field in solid, radiating walls heated by convection from a transparent gas is presented. Both heat radiation and heat conduction equations are formulated in terms of boundary integral equations. The discretization of these equations is accomplished using a slightly modified standard boundary element method computer program. The discretization results in two coupled sets of algebraic equations corresponding to conduction and radiation. Due to the original solution strategy, all the unknowns of these sets, except those of the temperatures of the radiating boundary elements, are eliminated, thus significantly reducing the number of the nonlinear equations to be solved. A numerical example is included.
