Abstrakt

Due to the fast development of imaging techniques, high-frequency ultrasound finds new application fields, e.g. in dermatology or cosmetology. Ultrasound images are widely used for assessment of skin diseases or ageing. Therefore, there appear needs to develop new algorithms for ultrasound image segmentation, registration and analysis. To meet these needs, the authors propose a method for segmentation and registration of superficial veins in high-frequency and classic ultrasound images. The developed technique is divided into two parts. Firstly, the superficial veins are segmented in images of both modalities using the geodesic active contour model. The segmentation results provide initial points for further registration steps. The obtained segmentation masks are compared with the expert delineations resulting in average Dice Index equal to 0.89.
