Abstrakt

A statistical analysis was made of the data regarding sulfur content obtained from steel smelting tests carried out in two open hearth furnaces, one of which was fired with fuel oil, while the other was fired with natural gas containing an admixture of fuel oil for carburization. It was found that sulfurizing of the gaseous phase due to firing with fuel oil could be minimized by employing high charging ratios and shortening the time requried for charging the furnace and melting the charge.
