A new method of calibration is described which consists essentially in preparing a series of different weighed samples of the primary standard, to which, after dissolving, a standard solution of the base element is added in various proportions, so as to bring the concentration of the base element in the samples and standards up to the same level in order to balance its effect on the element to be identified. An example of the identification of Cr and Mo in high-alloy steels by the method of atomic absorption spectrometry is given.
