abstract = "The paper presents a review of selected existing ways of realizing distributed computers systems in explosive atmospheres. It points out the problems that must be considered during designing of the system. It evaluates the influence of specific installations architecture on data flow of the control network. Also the possibility of early detection of potential errors in the system associated with incorrect operation of network components was analyzed. Particular attention was given to diagnostic issues because the preventive actions aiming to reduce the number of failures in the hazardous installation are of utmost importance.",
