N2 - Packet loss is one of the main reasons of deterioration of real-Time multimedia transmissions in today's Internet. This deterioration is especially severe, when several losses occur in a row, one after another. In this paper, it is shown how an application of the active queue management, based on the dropping function, may prevent losses from grouping together. A realistic model for the TCP traffic, incorporating the batch arrivals, is used, with several different shapes of dropping functions.
