Flotation waste management

Flotation process is used in coking coal in order to enrich the tiniest fraction of coal. As a result of this operation, a significant amount of wastes is produced. If we change the word “waste” to”secondary resource” in terms of flotation waste, we obtain a material which has a potential application in many fields. A special feature of this type of waste is their size of grains (smaller than 1 mm), so at elevated humidity levels they are plastic and, after drying, they are characterized by high mechanical strength. Depending on type of minerals or the way of exploitation, they may include different contents of carbon and other organic compounds or trace elements.The aim of this paper is to describe the methods of floatation waste application in: civil engineering, building ceramics, revitalization of degraded areas, agriculture or as a fuel.
