N2 - The empirical study presented in this article is a part of the research conducted on the sample of 292 companies operating in Poland. The aim of the study has been to investigate the issues related to the environmental proactivity and its determinants. The analysis has revealed the two-factor construct for measuring environmental proactivity. These factors were labeled as the planning and organizational environmental management practices and the operational environmental management practices. The results of the study have shown that the environmental proactivity is the most significantly influenced by company size and perceived environmental uncertainty. The affiliation of companies to capital group and their internationalization also significantly affect the level of environmental proactivity, but the differences are smaller. In addition, the analyzed determinants influence in a different way the level of companies’ engagement in the planning and organizational environmental management practices and the operational environmental management practices.
