Abstrakt

The objective of the work was to test the possibility of DSC method implementation to shale rocks examination, regarding their mineral composition and organic matter content. Six shale rocks samples, regarded as potential source of hydrocarbons, were taken from Lower Silurian formations in Poland. The obtained TG/DSC curves are rater complex because of the complex mineral composition of the examined rocks. The profiles of DSC curves reflects some chemical and physical transformations. Depending on the gas atmosphere applied in the experiment the combustion or pyrolysis of the organic matter can be observed. The temperature and the enthalpy of organic matter decomposition is possible to be measured. It was shown that differential scanning calorimetry is a powerful method for analyzing shale rocks, rich in organic matter.
