title = "Aggregate {\textendash} geogrid interaction in stabilisation applications. How far standard laboratory index test results are from reality",
abstract = "Paper discuss mechanism of soil {\textendash} stiff geogrid interaction at low strain. Traditional geosynthetic index tests carried out in laboratory are made for grid itself and at relatively high strain level. In practice when geogrid is in contact with stone particles and compacted aggregate is interlocked within aperture strain level is much lower. Paper discuss large scale laboratory research results on grid-aggregate cooperation and interaction between both materials. Results of tests on grid samples 1m x 1,5m tested in unique testing frame with and without aggregate are shown and interpreted. Further full scale trials carried out on experimental floating road constructed on extremely weak subsoil are shown. Fully instrumented experiment confirmed laboratory findings on unique behavior of grid at low strain. Discussion on practical requirements for geogrids in stabilisation in light of both research results and existing international standards and engineering practice is a final part of paper.",
