Aesthetic and material solutions and the communication of meaning in architecture – modernization of historic buildings on the example of selected author’s realizations

The article deals with the role of material solutions in the light of the communication of design ideas and the communication of meanings in architecture. These issues are presented using examples of selected projects (including two author's realisations). The aim of the paper is to show that building materials are important factors in the creation of the design idea and communication of meanings in architecture. The research shows that the role of building materials in the context of creating architecture goes beyond their physical properties.
