Abstrakt

This article compares passive and active protection of low-voltage switchgear assemblies against internal arc faults and presents a means to carry out such protection. Parts of internal arc fault mitigation systems are detailed and their advantages in the field of protection of personnel and assemblies discussed. Examples of internal arc fault tests performed in an ABB laboratory complete the comparison. Finally, the paper presents the evolution of IEC documents related to internal arc fault testing of low-voltage switchgear assemblies.
