Abstrakt

Urban road tunnels become recently inherent components of road network. They facilitate urban transport and allow for arrangement of urban space. However, hereby new dangers appeared and the most serious one is the fire outbreak in an urban tunnel with congested traffic. Since a tunnel fire commonly develops quickly and in an unpredictable way the threatened people have to undertake appropriate actions to save themselves. All tunnel systems must support the self-rescue process, but in a case of high power fire the time factor is of crucial importance. The paper presents a few scenarios of tunnel fire and subsequent evacuation in a real urban tunnel. The fire development was simulated using Computational Fluid Mechanics (CFD) methods and the evacuation process was modeled by the PATHFINDER software.
