Abstract
COD and TOC in the wastewater from production of BuEtCH-CH 2ONO2 were reduced in 75.4% and 41.7%, resp., under optimum conditions of the Fenton reaction (4.5 g H2O2/L, Fe2+/H2O2=0.3; pH 2.0; reaction time 1 h), COD and TOC were reduced in 80.2% and 68.2%, resp., in the UV/H2O 2 process (0.5 g H2O2/L; pH 2.0; reaction time 1 h). In both methods, BOD5/COD ratio increased from 0.0075 to 0.10 and 0.46 resp., and wastewater became more susceptible for biodegrdn. On contrary, the COD/TOC ratio decreased in both methods from 4.27 to 1.80 and 2.66, resp. The org. pollutants In wastewater were decompd. and their chem. properties were changed by the oxidn.
