Abstract
Technical development in power, chemical and automotive industry has led to increase transportation of LPG in Poland. There are about 8000 registered road tankers used to transportation of dangerous substances in our country. A lot of traffic accidents involving such vehicles happen every year. They usually occur as a result of human errors they cause significant risk to the environment. Hazardous substances released as a result of damage of the road tankers are potential sources of serious fires. Consequences of this fires could be injuries or deaths of the people staying nearby. In this paper the consequences of fireball and pool fire on land, which could happen after accident of LPG tanker, are described. The amounts of heat flux at some distance from the place of accident depending on the wind velocity and the amount of transported substances are calculated.
