Abstract
The steel OOH17N14M2A corresponding to ASTM steel 316L requires further physico chemical study and testing relative to corrosion by the tissues and body fluids of the organism. This biotolerance and pathomorphology of implants is investigated in 10% HCl 3% FeCl "SUB 3" solutions at 37 degreesC and Ringer fluids saturated with oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide. The corrosion weight losses are decreased from 1450 X 10 "SUP -2" mg/mm "SUP 2" to 0.727 X 10 "SUP -2" mg/mm "SUP 2" by passivation of the steel. (R.H.)
