Abstract
It is shown that making use of the concept of extended state and modifying system equations, the problem of current smoothing of the past states of a discrete system can be transformed to a filtering problem. A solution to the smoothing problem is obtained through the application of the Kalman filter formulae to the modified state equations. A solution to the fixed-point smoothing problem is also derived.
