Abstract
This paper deals with the starting up performance of the induction motor synchronized by reluctance torque. The model of the motor, including only the asymmetrical rotor cage, was proposed. The model was derived from the monoharmonic model of the symmetrcal squirrel-cage induction motor under the assumption that some bars in the cage are broken. The broken bars are modelled as ones having much higher resistances than the bars which are not broken. Such an approach leads to the model in which only the rotor resistance matrix [R r] has changed. The new matrix [Rr] is not a diagonal matrix, as it is in the model of the symmetrical motor. This leads to linking between equations of different αβ coordinates. The results of simulations in Matlab-Simulink environment are presented. As it results from those figures the considered asymmetry leads to the drop in the total torque curve. The torque drop can be the reason of troubles for the with reaching the speed near to the synchronous speed.
