Abstract

For many years, the global economy has been increasingly interested in obtaining alternative fuels, including those meeting ecological requirements [1]. One of these directions is the use of the energy contained in methane. Coal seams methane is a very valuable ecological fuel-with a calorific value of approx. 50 MJ / kg, and on the other hand-a greenhouse gas with a greenhouse potential 23-28 times higher than carbon dioxide [2]. Methane from coal deposits is released both in active mines and after their liquidation [3]. At the same time as more mines are closed, the potential for discoverable methane resources from closed hard coal mines is growing. In turn, with the growing awareness of the following climate changes, and thus the introduction of climate policy, methane from goaf has become the subject of greater interest and economic use. This article presents a case study containing an analysis of the state of methane resources, their extraction and economic use of methane for the production of heat and electricity from the liquidated Moszczenica by Spółka Restrukturyzacji Kopalń S.A. (SRK).
