Abstract

The aim of the paper is the thermo-ecological cost analysis of cold power plant with Stirling engine equipped with regenerator fed with cryogenic exergy of Liquid Natural Gas (LNG). Thermo-ecological cost (TEC) is defined as cumulative consumption of non-renewable exergy with inclusion of additional consumption resulting from compensation of losses due to the rejection of wastes to natural environment. Thermo-ecological analysis is based on the results obtained by means of theoretical mathematical models and CFD modelling of the cold Stirling engine with regenerator developed by the Authors. The developed mathematical model let to analyse influence of the regenerator on the performance of the Stirling engine. Specifically, heat transfer conditions between regenerator matrix and working fluid, pressure drop in the regenerator were investigated. The results of mathematical modelling are the base for the TEC assessment. Within the thermo-ecological analysis based on the theory of exergy cost the influence of selected parameters is demonstrated. The authors presented additionally the TEC of electricity generated in cold power plant for its different configurations. The proposed theoretical investigation are the base for the acquisition of new knowledge in the field of possible ways of converting cryogenic exergy of LNG into electricity and optimization of this cycle with strong focus on ecological effects, including the TEC.
