Abstract

The present paper is focused on the influence of thin nickel layer on ceramic-aluminium interlace microstructure formed during hot pressing in vacuum. Results of differential thermal analysis (DTA) and microstructure studies by scanning (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are presented. The DTA studies of powders mixture of alumina coated with nickel layer and aluminium showed the exothermal effect connected with nickel layer and aluminium matrix interaction at the temperature below aluminium melt point. After the vacuum hot pressing of the nickel coated alumina particles and aluminium powder mixture, different microstructure of ceramic-mctal bonding was observed in composite material with the temperature increase.
