Abstract

This paper presents the electrical system of a prototype, lightweight bulk material loader with an innovative drive system. The EV-LKP1 loader is a battery electric vehicle with a swappable energy storage system. It is intended for use in underground mines without explosion hazards, particularly metal ore mines. The loader's drive system includes four independent electric drive units for the road wheels. Additionally, two additional electric drive units are used to drive hydraulic pumps. The article presents a method for estimating the demand for drive power and electrical energy. Furthermore, the properties and structure of the loader's electrical systems are presented and the main design challenges faced during the design of the loader prototype are identified.
