Abstract

The article aims at analysing the content of heavy metals in plants in two rural administrative units of Psary and Płoki which are located in the western part of the Małopolska province in Poland. These areas have been heavily transformed by the mining and processing industries. It was found that the content of cadmium in the plant material slightly exceeded the permissible standard of the element for animal feed in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development [1], therefore vegetation from this area cannot be utilised for fodder purposes. The lead content in the collected plant material did not exceed the aforementioned standard. The content of zinc and copper in the plant material did not exceed the permissible content of the elements for feed proposed by IUNG [2]. It should therefore be concluded that the vegetation of the fallows of the rural administrative unit of Psary and Płoki can be used as feed for farm animals. A positive direction of the relationship between the content of lead in soil (0-20 cm) and the content of the element in plants occurring in the rural administrative unit of Płoki was revealed. No correlation (p <0.05) between the content of heavy metals in the soil and the content of these elements in plants present in the rural administrative unit of Psary was noted.
