Abstract
The article concerns the determination of air friction losses in a high speed brushless DC motor (PM BLDC) with an external rotor. In a motor of such a design, air friction losses are much higher than in a motor operating in a typical speed range. The authors in the paper propose their own method of determining air friction losses for motors with an external rotor. Theoretical considerations have been supported by laboratory tests on a prototype of high-speed PM BLDC motor with an external rotor.
