STRATEGIES FOR COOPERATION WITH STAKEHOLDERS FOR SUSTAINABLE FLOWS IN THE DISTRIBUTION NETWORK

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Background: Implementing sustainable development principles within distribution networks requires the active involvement of multiple organisations. In modern distribution systems, logistics service providers (LSPs) play a particularly significant role due to their position within extensive networks of relationships and cooperation with various stakeholder groups. In this context, selecting appropriate cooperation strategies and identifying actions that support sustainable flows within the distribution network become crucial. Methods: This study employed a literature review to identify leading trends in organising logistics processes within distribution networks aligned with sustainable development principles. Based on this review, relevant activities were selected and subsequently evaluated by a panel of international logistics experts using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. The experts assessed activities and strategies related to stakeholder cooperation by logistics service providers. Results: The study identified a range of stakeholder-related activities and ranked them according to their contribution to achieving sustainable development goals through effective management stakeholder relationship management. The analysis indicates that logistics service providers should adopt an exploitation strategy, which emphasises the development and deepening of existing stakeholder relationships. Conclusions: These findings are particularly relevant for third-party logistics (3PL) providers, who face increasing expectations from stakeholders in the realm of sustainable development. The strategies and actions proposed in this research can be tailored to the specific needs of individual companies. Moreover, they offer practical guidance for implementing organisational changes that strengthen stakeholder relationships by addressing their evolving expectations and needs.
