Abstract
Summary. The article compares the energy consumption of four installations producing ammonia and methanol, which are to be alternative fuels. Both factors were produced using renewable hydrogen obtained thanks to temporary surpluses of energy from renewable energy sources. Additionally, nitrogen is used for the production of ammonia, which is a waste product from the air separation installation, and for the production of methanol, carbon dioxide is used, captured from the exhaust gases emitted from conventional power plants. The article presents the results of thermodynamic analysis in terms of the efficiency of both installations and the energy consumption of individual components. The analysis was performed for the ammonia production installations: currently operating at the parameters of 25 MPa, 450 ° C, the future installation of 6 MPa, 300 ° C and the modern 12 MPa, 400 ° C installation and the methanol production installation of 7,8 MPa, 210 ° C.
