Selected Aspects of Fuel Consumption of Personal Cars in Everyday Use

This paper presents the results of a multi-year (2014-2024) study of fuel consumption through everyday passenger vehicles used to meet the typical transport needs of employed people. The research was conducted for vehicles fuelled by petrol, diesel and LPG. The results of the study reflect the service life and gradual replacement of vehicles in use over a decade. During this time, as a result of changes in place of residence and marital status, the scope and nature of the transport needs of the owner of the surveyed vehicles also changed. The paper discusses the mileage of cars used in households and its dynamic changes. The results of calculations of the fuel consumption of the cars studied are presented and compared, both in terms of fuel volume and primary energy content. Economic aspects related to fuel purchase costs are also discussed. The actual average costs per 100 km for a diesel car, a gasoline car and a bi-fuel car (gasoline + LPG) are compared.
