Abstract
Technical problems arising during adaptation of 120MW class generators for reactive power sources are presented in the paper. Necessity of providing additional inductive reactive power in the power grid results from ongoing replacement of old coal-fired power units with synchronous generators for renewable energy sources. The failure-free operation of synchronous compensator with continuous control of reactive power requires some modernization of machine design.
