Abstract

In this paper the results of a theoretical analysis aiming to examine the possibility of obtaining of a so-called negative emission of carbon dioxide in the production of electricity in a large power plant are presented. The basis of such considerations is a so-called zero carbon dioxide balance, which is absorbed by a plant during photosynthesis and generated during combustion. An indispensible condition required to obtain a negative value of the defined in the paper unit emission is to carry out the carbon capture and storage process. In the paper a results for the analysis for a 900 MW power plant are shown. It was assumed, that the power plant is integrated with a membrane separation unit. The carbon capture unit emission rates were calculated for different shares of biomass co-fired with coal and different recovery rates of carbon dioxide capture. Additionally, the values of several energy indicators, i.e. boiler efficiency, auxiliary power rates and net efficiency of the power plant were determined.
