Possibilities of energetic use of waste plastics

Abstract

Due to their properties and low production costs, plastics have replaced a number of construction materials and are being used more and more. To maximize the potential of plastics at the final stage of their life, you need to choose the right way to manage the resulting waste. In accordance with Circular Economy, the first form of using this waste should be material recycling, energy recovery may be an alternative to this method of management. It is unacceptable that in the era of today's technology this type of waste is stored, or simply thrown into the so-called "Illegal dumps". There is more and more plastic waste abandoned on beaches, polluting rivers and oceans, their quantity is increasing from year to year becoming a great threat to the environment. At each stage of the product life cycle, savings should be made, and continuous improvement should be made to the current state of consumption and subsequent management of the resulting plastic waste. The paper presents the method of managing waste plastics on the example of homogeneous and mixed substances, using the pyrolysis process. The homogeneous sample was made of soft foils, however, contaminated with a mineral substance, the second sample was made of mixed materials, both hard and soft, with the presence of PVC.
