Abstract
Ti and Ti6A14V alloy wires, ø 1.5 and 2 mm, resp., electrolytically polished with 162.4 and 81.2 mAh/cm2 passed through an HF electrolyte, showed av. roughness coefficients reduced from 1.55 to 0.11 and from 0.66 to 0.11 μm, resp. and enhanced resistance to corrosion (in nondeaerated NaCl 8.00, CaCl20.20, KCl 0.20, MgCl2 0.05, NaHCO3 1.00, Na2HPO40.05 g/L (Tyrode's) solution, pH 6.9). Anode passivation of Ti and Ti6A14V in aq. 100 g/L CrO 3 for 20-30 min at 6-40 V, reduced corrosion rates from 0.06 to <0.001 mm/year and shifted corrosion potentials in Tyrode's solution from 290 to ∼500 mV. Prolonged passivation times were preferred.
