Petri nets in modelling and simulation of the hierarchical structure of manufacturing Systems

Abstract

Among the methods of modeling production systems, Petri Nets occupy an important place. Due to well-formed rules, creating models is simple, though not without limitations. Some of these difficulties have been overcome by extending the existing Petri Nets formalism, but the analysis of large networks, that are a mapping of complex production systems, is still a serious difficulty. For this reason, an important issue is the possibility of scaling the network, so that there is the ability of the general look at the model and the detailed consideration of a selected fragment of the modeled process. This could reduce the amount of software and hardware resources involved in the calculations and the lower impact on the processor and memory load. However, it should be noted that it is not always necessary to accurately represent all of the component processes. On the other hand, it is important to maintain compatibility with Petri’s network analysis principles in order to correctly interpret the model at different levels of detailedness. This article presents the selected problems of using the Petri Nets to modeling of production systems, taking into account comments that are available in the existing scientific sources.
