Abstract

In this paper we will look at the main possibilities of using biomass to produce electricity and heat with particular emphasis on the gasification process presented. The main advantages and disadvantages of power systems using biomass gasification technology are described. Based on the results obtained from the experimental installation of biomass gasification with the power of a fixed-bed gas generator of about 60 kWt, a conception of a system for biomass gasification with power at 1.5 MWt integrated with a combustion engine was proposed. The scheme of the proposed installation of a biomass gasification system consisting of the preparation and proportioning of a fuel installation, gas generator, dry gas cleaning system and combustion engine combined with an electricity generator is discussed. The assumptions made for the thermodynamic analysis of the system are presented. The results of the considered installation are shown. In the conducted parametric analysis such factors as the efficiency of the gas generator; the efficiency of the gas purification apparatus; the efficiency of electrical energy production and also the heat of the burning engine in the context of the efficiency of the whole process. An analysis of the parameters of the possibility of a partly consumed gas process in the burning compartment is also given.
