Abstract
The effect of a difference between a plant and its model upon the value of the performance index is discussed. The model used is linear, time invariant and stable. It is assumed that terminal time is fixed. The first and second order terms of the expansion of the performance index about a local minimum are used to estimate the difference considered. The problem without terminal constraints as well as that with state variables specified at a fixed terminal time are analyzed.
