Abstract
The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of overflow filters. The tests were carried out in a 2.0 dm3 filter jug. Each filter was tested for a period of 1 months. 5 dm3 of tap water were filtered every day. Samples for analyzes were taken every 3 days. The water samples were collected immediately after the filter was rinsed. Water samples taken after the first and second filtration through a new cartridge (such water is according to filter jugs producers not suitable for drinking) were also analyzed. The effectiveness of the tested filters was evaluated based on the monitoring of physicochemical parameters such as: water hardness, pH, chloride content, absorbance, color, total organic carbon and also by the elimination of pollutants from the Emerging Pollutants group. In addition, a toxicological analysis of the samples after filtration was carried out. A non-toxic nature of each sample at every stage of the test has been proved. Based on the conducted tests, it can be concluded that after two weeks of filter operation, it may no longer fulfill its function. However, taking into account the possibility of occurrence of even pollution in the water supply network, the use of filters seems to be necessary.
