Abstract
Three camouflage paints, green, brown, and black, were modified with 2% by mass or 4% by mass Ag nanoparticles deposited on colloidal silica and glass flakes structurally bound to Ag+ions. The resulting free coatings were subjected to UV-Vis photochem. anal. The coatings’ ability to singlet O photogeneratation through the oxidn. of 1,5-dihydroxy-naphthalene (DHN) was detd. The kinetics of the DHN oxidn. reaction and the efficiency of singlet O generation were detd. Depending on the paint compn., the type of modifier used, and its concn., the tested coatings exhibited an ability to oxidize DHN in the range of 73–85%. The obtained results confirm the functional nature of the developed coatings, indicating the possibility of effectively combining camouflage properties with antimicrobial potential in a single coating system.
