Abstract

The latest machines and entire production lines use mechatronic systems more and more often. Introduction of electronic solutions and information technologies to mechanical engineering is the essence of mechatronics, contributing to the fact that borderlines between these fields are disappearing. On the other hand, synergies of such different disciplines contribute to crucial improvement in quality of new solutions. The article shows trends in drive systems based on mechatronics dedicated to corrugating machines. Due to a complexity of this subject, the authors discus only two modules used in the corrugating machines, which have a crucial effect on quality of a final product. They include a rotary cutter and an automatic endless stacker for production of accordion fold board. These two machines are used as final units in the production of corrugated board, however their principle of operation is completely different. The cutter cuts board sheets into segments of fixed length and stacks them, whereas the stacker makes the board concertinaed and stacks it. This technology has been used in corrugating machines for over 20 years, however today it is in its heyday due to new technical solutions. The article presents basic solutions used in drive control systems of both machines without using complicated mathematical formulas. The authors show high dynamics of these solutions and their unquestionable advantage connected with the fact that they are easy to be programmed. The authors present resultants of research works carried out on the rotary cutter and the automatic endless stacker. As publications on this subject are very rare, the authors considered it appropriate to present them to larger circle of specialists.
