Abstract
Condensation of RCMe2OOH [I. R = 2-naphthyl, II. R = 2-(6-isopropylnaphthyl)] with RCMe2 OH in AcOH In presence of HCIO4 gave resp. [RCMe2O]2 III and IV In 80% and 78% yields, resp. (m.p. 142-144°C and 125-127°C, resp.). Similarly, the condensation oftert-BuOOH with 2,6-bis-(1-hydroxys-methyl-ethyl)naphthalene gave the resp. bisperoxide V in 84.8% yield (m.p. 91.5-93°C). Condensation of II Na salt with Ba̧CH2)4Br or Br (CH 2)10br In presence of Bu4 NHSO4 gave resp. RCMe2OO(CH2)nOOMe2CR (R = 2-(6-isopropylnaphthyl) VI, n = 4, yield 69%, m.p. 57-59°C). The analog bisperoxide VII (n - 10) was an oil and could not be sepd. In pure form. The lll-VII peroxides were used as Initiators of free radical oxldn. ofl-PrPh to PhCMe2OOH at 100-120°C to det. reaction rate consts. The IH-Vperoxides were found less active while the VI and VII peroxides more active than dicuml peroxide widdely used as Initiator in free radical processes. Max. rares of thermal decompn. pf III-V peroxides as setd. with differential scanning calorimetry were achieved at 180.53° C, 182.81°C and 171.49°C, resp. The main decompn. products wers resp. ketones.
