Abstract

In the Institute of Power Engineering and Turbomachinery of the Silesian University of Technology the courses for students and experimental research have been performed from many years now. To this end a mini steam power station located in Machinery Hall is used. It is a unique non-commercial installation of such kind in Europe, consisting of a steam boiler, steam turbine with condenser, electric generator, cooling tower and a tunnel to test the flows of steam through nozzles and blade cascades. During the flood, which took place in May 2010, majority of the power station machinery and devices were devastated. In this paper the mini steam power plant (called also as a Small Rankine Cycle) has been presented, its main machinery and devices as well a modernization process after flood have been described.
