New curricula of Welding Engineering Education in Polish M.Sc. Study

The Silesian Technical University was established in 1945 and the Department of Welding at Mechanical Engineering Faculty was founded in 1952 by professor Jozef Pilarczyk. The first curricula for the Department of Welding were intended to prepare prospective engineers at undergraduate study (B.Sc.) and since 1956 also at graduate study (M.Sc.). The new political circumstances reveal the perspective of incorporating Poland into the European Union. The need for complying with the didactical standards admitted by the affiliated countries of EU and fulfilling by the welding engineers the requirements imposed by rapidly changing polish industry as well, compelled the polish universities councils of didactic to appropriate curricula and syllabuses modification. The paper is presenting a comprehensive view on the curricula development of the welding engineering education in the area of three specialities: Welding Technologies, Quality Control and Quality Assurance in Welding Engineering and Automation and Robotics of Welding Processes; all on M.Sc. degree level of study. The development is discussed on the background of curricula and syllabuses of other western universities educating welding engineers.
