Abstract

The research project, which is presented in the paper, ought to result in an efficient and effective system of supporting administrative units, involved in processes of using strategic acoustic maps. This project should be considered as a creative extension of former research, focused on development of GIS-based technology of acoustic mapping of urban areas. The currently developed system will make it possible to use the knowledge concentrated and stored in specialised scientific institutions and the potential of computer centres in order to offer on-line expert support for many client? institutions. The system is assumed to be an integral part of a superior system of environmental management and will be a base for decisions made by local authorities, not necessarily specialists in the domain of acoustics. The possibility of using some applications of the designed system by citizens in order to obtain information about their acoustic environment is considered as well.
