Abstract

Use of backwash water from fi lter beds by its recirculation to the treatment plant is an effective technological solution gaining attention of water supply system operators. Filter backwash recycling allows reducing water intake costs (pumping, environment taxes) and costs of water discharge into drains or the environment. The paper discusses effectiveness of the backwash water treatment in the modernized technological train of WTP Mosina. An assessment of the process was conducted on the basis of the operational data collected during the past three-and-a-half-year period (2012-2015) and both physico-chemical and bacteriological test results. Additionally, the risks and benefi ts of the backwash water recycling in the groundwater treatment train were presented. The up-todate operational results have clearly shown that coagulation applied in the backwash water treatment train allows obtaining quality comparable with that of raw groundwater.
