Abstract
This paper shows the effect of mass on passive safety coefficient (Acceleration Severity Index - ASI) during vehicle collision with a lighting column. The subject related to reduction of passive safety coefficient was chosen because every year in Europe number of fatal accidents is around 25 000. Part of this fatal accident are with poles and signs constitute about 1.5–2% of all fatal accidents. Proposed approach allowing reduction of passive safety coefficient concerned the influence of the position of the lighting column’s center of gravity on the previously mentioned coefficient. For this purpose, a test stand was created allowing a change in the position of the center of gravity of the lighting column.
