Abstract

The main goal of this paper is the development of a methodology of multicriterial optimization of geometric features (the geometric form and dimension system) of an orthopedic implant responsible for supporting the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament in the knee joint. The methodology takes advantage of the artificial immune system for optimization. To select an optimal solution two criteria have been used: the implant should be strong enough and enable the best blood perfusion. Two independent approaches were used for the selection: 1) based on the calculation of the weighted sum method, and 2) based on the Pareto front. Additionally, evaluation of the results was made using strength verification. In the first step, the implant model was put into the bone model. In the second step of the simulation it was pulled off the graft by the implant. Finally, results of optimisation were assessed by medical doctors and technology engineers.
