Abstract

The concept of Industry 4.0 means a digital transformation of production system characterized by highly developed processes of automation and digitization as well as the use of electronics and information technologies (IT) in production and services. The aim of this transformation is to increase production efficiency and introduce the possibility of flexible product changes. Although the term Industry 4.0 was introduced in 2011, its understanding is still unclear and inconsistent. Therefore, new directions of the further research is still sought for in this field. In this context, a bibliometric analysis of publications from the Web of Science database for the period 1990-2018 was conducted. The analysis of diverse research areas related to Industry 4.0 delivers comprehensive overview of past and present studies in this field and allows to determine research gaps and future challenges related to the implementation of this concept.
