Abstract
Present the results of analysis of isotopic composition of carbon of stalagmites and stalacites formed in 1966-1974. Analysed samples were taken in deep coal mines where inflowing water is characterized by practically inactive 14C. For comparison, there were measured concentrations of 14C in samples of atmospheric carbon dioxide taken in Gliwice in summer 1974. Comparisons of concentrations of 14C isotopes in stalagmites and stalactites, acid carbonates dissolved in waters, and atmospheric carbon dioxide show that carbon present in the studied stalagmites and stalactites is mainly derived from atmospheric carbon dioxide, characterized by high concentration of 14C. The measurements of the stable isotope ratio 13C/14C showed that the concentration of 13C in stalagmites and stalactites markedly differ from that of typical carbonate cave sinter as well as Devonian and Tertiary limestones.-English summary
