Abstract

An idea and realization of Intelligent Monitoring System Designer (IMSD) is presented in the paper. First, the case of standard machining is discussed from a point of view of steps that must be taken by human designer to design a monitoring system. Conclusions drawn in this part serve as a base for establishing the assumptions for IMSD development. The general destination of the IMSD is to test and select the best configuration of sensors and signal processing methods for designing of monitoring systems. In other words, the IMSD performs a certain set of functions allowing to choose sensor configuration, select measured signal features and, finally, integrate the selected features within a decision-making procedure. An example of application of different methods for sensor feature selection and, then, integration with Feed Forward Back Propagation neural network summarizes the paper.
