Abstract

The paper analyzes the possibilities of carbon dioxide capture from the flue gas in condensing coal fired power plants by means of the chemical absorption. It was assumed that the energy is supplied to the CO2 capture process through a steam at appropriate parameters and flow. The discussion presented here considers a steam extraction from a turbine fed by a steam boiler, for which the carbon dioxide separation is conducted. The second option under analysis is energy supplied to the carbon capture system through a steam from an external source. The paper presents a concept of using existing 360 MW turbines to supply the heat into CO2 capture system of a new power generating unit. The required adjustments in the turbines are described. Also the power generating units performance is analyzed before and after the CO2 removal system is applied.
