Abstract

The article presents the issues related to the process of biomass gasification in gasifiers with a fixed bed. The main reason for choosing gasification technology to produce electricity and heat is described. Discussed are developed at the Institute for Chemical Processing of Coal in Zabrze, the concept of research installations for gasification of biomass. The installation consisting of a fuel supply system, gas generator, dry gas cleaning system and the system used to produce electricity and heat is described in details. Exemplary selected results of the tests concerning produced by the generator process gas and electricity in a dual fuel combustion engine are presented. In the second part of the paper a parametric analysis of the biomass gasification installation integrated with the combustion engine used in the production in cogeneration of electricity and heat is made. The effect of various system components including efficiency of the gasifier, the efficiency of generation of electricity and heat in a gas engine and the efficiency of gas purification system on the efficiency of the whole installation is presented.
