N2 - Openings in plate structures within vibro-acoustic systems play critical roles, such as heat dissipation, enabling device monitoring, and reducing weight. However, these openings introduce complexity in the vibro-acoustic coupling of the systems making noise control more challenging. Active Structural Acoustic Control (ASAC) offers a suitable solution for noise reduction in such systems. This study experimentally investigates the impact of inertial actuator placement on noise reduction and demonstrating that optimal placement is crucial for effective control. Additionally, the contribution of sound leakage through openings to the overall system response is evaluated. A transparent plastic lid was employed to cover the opening, reducing sound leakage while maintaining functionalities such as device monitoring and weight reduction. The findings highlight the importance of actuator placement and the potential of tailored design modifications in addressing the challenges of vibro-acoustic systems with openings. The system with a plastic lid and well-distributed actuator placement, achieved over 30 dB of total noise reduction, while arrangements with actuators near the edges or too close together showed limited control due to displacement constraints.
